nature mill compost

For my effort to making our house greener, I’m considering getting this indoor compost by naturemill./

What kind of compost system do you have?

I thought about have one going in the backyard.. but seems scary..

This one, you just plug it in, and it’s ready. I cook a lot and I feel like our daily garbage, the most of it is from cooking. I feel bad putting it out. Now with this, everyone (including our plants!) is happy. If I make extra, I plan on sharing with our neighbors.

Green Living

One of the things I’m going to try achieve is to incorporate make our house much “greener”..

While I was breastfeeding Ava, I read this wonderful article in New Yorker. First time I read about the 2000-watt society and about a small Island called “ Samsoe” in Denmark.. The island has 100% alternative energy for its residents.. Pretty amazing and inspiring..

- - - - -

The 2000-watt society is a vision, originated by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich at the end of 1998, in which each person in the developed world would cut their rate of energy use to an average of no more than 2,000 watts (i.e. 17,520 kilowatt-hours per year of all energy use, not only electrical) by the year 2050, without lowering their standard of living.

Two thousand watts is approximately the current world average rate of energy use. This compares to averages of around 6,000 watts in western Europe, 12,000 watts in the United States[1] and closer to 500 watts in developing countries such as India. Switzerland itself, currently using an average of around 5,000 watts, was last a 2000-watt society in the 1960s.

It is further envisaged that the use of carbon based fuels would be ultimately cut to no more than 500 watts per person within 50 to 100 years.

The vision was developed in response to concerns about climate change, energy security, and the future availability of energy supplies. It is supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy[2], the Association of Swiss Architects and Engineers, and other bodies.

You were a shaman in a small village in Japan during Warring States period.
You used to destroy evil spirit in the village.
Your happiest moment was when you completely wiped out evil ghosts.
Your saddest moment was when your parents were killed by evil ghosts.
Your death took place when your love sold your soul to the spirit and killed you.

Pretty scary! Though it makes me imagine pretty dope ghost story in my head..

What about Kenny’s?
No, he wasn’t that lover who sold my soul.
He was around FAR earlier than me.

Kenny was a hobbit leader. :) hehe.

Going country on Ukulele

Everything sounds so good on ukulele.

Kenny bought a baritone ukulele over the weekend. With my soprano uku, we just had a couple of music session. So fun!

Old country music are just soo beautiful..

williamsburg.. good furniture shopping spots

Good day today..

I wish I took some photos. But with the weather all strange and ava hanging on my chest, it was a little hard. oh well.

..nice long mellow morning with kids and K..
..williamburg adventure for shopping for the house. went to :

Carl Chaffee (324 Wythe Ave.)
— nice but very very expensive..

A&G Merch (111 N. 6th St)
— lots of affordable new products..

The Future Perfect (115 N. 6th St.)
— some affordable some very very very expensive. carry a lot of innovative stuff.

Modest Designs (326 Wythe Ave.)
— some nice. but VERY expensive.

Cosmo Modern (314 Wythe Ave)
— wasnt’ bad. but as is with the store that carries a lot of mid century stuff, some are steal and some are.. well, let’s say, it was laughable.

Two Jakes (320 Wythe Ave)
— OMG. we bought many chairs today!! I’ve been looking for right priced and good danish lounge chairs. They have a lot in stock! and all these beautiful sarrine chairs at really awesome price. It’s just not the price, but the quality is great as well. The owner is super nice. If you buy a bunch, they totally give you break on price. Can’t beat that. I’ve been looking for “deals” on ebay, but I realize, it’s not really so since you end up paying so much on shipping. Yay. I’m so going back here again!!

After the furniture shopping, we stopped by a music store and bough a baritone ukulele to play along with my soprano ukulele.

Oh, one more.. This is sad one. So as soon as we hit the pavement in the willyburg, Jinu was dozing off. We thought this was perfect since we could get a nice long brunch!! So we found this cute spot called Juliette’s. Happy looking spot, nice customers, nice waitress… EXCEPT for food. :( We ordered Tuna salad and a burger. Oh, how I was looking to get a juicy bite.. Tuna salad was so fishy and so salty.. Burger? I was ABOUT to bite and saw a little thing moving on fries. I don’t know what it was and I’m scared to find out. So fled the spot. *sigh* By the time we found a spot to eat, we weren’t really hungry anymore. Oh well.. it’s ok though. I’ll live.

Great grandparents..

Looking back, the last family trip we had before babies were born were truly amazing. Both Julie and I were carrying yet-to-be-born Miles and Ava. We had time for our immediate famlies by the water as well as spending quality time with Grandma and Dortch. We didn’t realize then, but now I realize that was the last time the entire family spent time together.
In the span of 3 months, both Grandma and Dortch passed away. Both amazing lady and man who lived very full lives, raised amazing families, said good byes in peace..
We miss them..
